SYNOPSIS
Deemed too provocative by the bourgeois audience of the Opéra-Comique, Georges Bizet’s Carmen received a cold reception on the night of its Paris premiere on March 3, 1875. Shattered by the scandal, the composer died just three months later, at the age of 36, worn down by exhaustion and despair.
