SYNOPSIS
In 2019, the arrest of Cyprus’s first serial killer, known as “Orestis,” shocked the world. He had specifically targeted vulnerable migrant women, convinced that no one would notice their disappearance. The case came to light after the discovery of a woman’s body in a mine shaft, ultimately revealing the premeditated murders of five foreign women and two of their children.
Handed seven life sentences—the longest sentence ever pronounced in Cyprus—he became infamous for one of the country’s darkest chapters. The scandal drew international attention from outlets such as the BBC and The New York Times and led to the resignation of the Justice Minister and the dismissal of the Chief of Police due to investigative failures.
Pleiades
revisits this shocking case, presenting exclusive crime scene photos and never-before-heard testimonies from first responders, investigators, journalists, victims’ families, the family of the killer, and experts. It not only retraces the events but also exposes the many systemic failures that allowed the crimes to go unnoticed for so long.
